    When merging PDFs is useful

A single document makes it easier to share an application, a chapter with notes or a collection of attachments. File order determines the sequence of pages in the final document.

For example, a three-page document followed by a two-page attachment produces a five-page PDF. Check the sequence before submitting the result.

    Prepare files before merging

Check that each PDF opens correctly and pages have the intended orientation. Choose only the documents you need and arrange their order before processing.

Scanned PDFs often contain page images: merging does not automatically recognise their text. After merging, check readability, links, annotations and forms.

    Combining documents and reducing size

Merging solves an organisational task and does not guarantee a smaller file. The resulting size depends on the contents, particularly images and scans. Reducing it requires an appropriate optimisation or compression operation.

    Confidential, protected or signed documents

Only process documents you are authorised to use. Protected PDFs may require credentials or specific operations; always keep signed originals, because modifying a document can invalidate digital signatures.

Check file limits and processing information before use. General service statistics are designed to count operations without including document contents.

    Frequently asked questions

    Can I merge scanned PDFs?

Scanned documents saved as PDF can be combined like other PDFs. Merging does not automatically make the text selectable; that requires optical character recognition.

Does file order change the result?

Yes. Document sequence determines page order in the final PDF. Check that the main document comes first and attachments follow in your intended sequence.

    Will digital signatures remain valid?

Modifying or reconstructing a PDF can invalidate digital signatures. Keep the original signed documents and check the recipient’s requirements before combining them.
