Median calculator
Find the median of a number list, including decimals and negative values. See the observation count, minimum and maximum.
Enter up to 10,000 numbers separated by whitespace, semicolons or newlines. A comma is a decimal separator, not a list delimiter.
Result
Enter your data and run the tool. Your result will appear here.
The values you enter stay on this page. Reloading or closing it clears them.
We count which tools are used most, without including entered values or file contents in the statistics. Privacy
How to use this calculator
Enter up to 10,000 numbers separated by whitespace, semicolons or newlines. A comma is a decimal separator, not a list delimiter.
Formula and method
Sort the data. For an odd count take the middle value; for an even count take the mean of the two middle values.
Worked example
For 7; 2; 10; 4, the sorted list is 2; 4; 7; 10 and the median is (4+7)/2=5.5.
Limits and interpretation
The median differs from the arithmetic mean and is less sensitive to outliers. Each number is one observation; do not enter frequency tables or thousands separators.
