From gross pension to net income

Annual gross pension is subject to Italian progressive income tax and pension-income deductions. Employee contributions and employment-only tax bonuses are not deducted or applied.

You can also estimate gross income from an annual net target. Multiple solutions or a gap from the target are shown explicitly. This does not calculate pension eligibility or retirement dates.

Pension deductions and Italian IRPEF 2026

Rates are 23% up to €28,000, 33% from €28,000 to €50,000 and 43% above that. The pension deduction is €1,955 up to €8,500, then decreases across the €8,500–€28,000 and €28,000–€50,000 bands.

An extra €50 applies above €25,000 and up to €29,000. Article 13 ratios are truncated to four decimal places. The deduction actually used cannot exceed gross tax.

Example: €1,800 gross over 13 payments

A €1,800 gross monthly average over 13 payments gives €23,400 annually. With illustrative local rates of 1.23% and 0.80%, net IRPEF is €4,386.07 and annual net income €18,538.91, averaging €1,426.07 per payment.

Why actual pension payments differ

Annual net divided by 13 is an average, not each actual monthly payment. Local tax balances may be withheld in a later year; regional tax is normally collected from January to November of the following year.

Initial local rates are editable examples. Use effective average rates and inclusive exemption thresholds. The model does not reconstruct local progressive brackets. No local taxes apply when net IRPEF is zero.

Other income, dependants, personal expenses, exempt pensions, foreign or supplementary pensions, fourteenth payments, social supplements, debt recoveries and pension-backed loans are excluded. Consult INPS or a professional for your situation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the thirteenth payment the same net amount?

Not necessarily. Deduction and local-tax allocation can make it different. This calculator shows annual net divided by 13.

Are 9.19% employee contributions deducted?

No. That assumption relates to employment income, not an ordinary deduction from gross pension.

Are social supplements or a fourteenth payment included?

No. They have separate eligibility rules and are excluded from the ordinary pension model.
