How to use this calculator

Enter a positive side length. This calculator assumes six equal sides and six equal angles.

Formula and method

A=(3√3/2)×s², obtained by adding the areas of the six equilateral triangles making up the hexagon.

Worked example

A side of 2 gives an area of 6√3≈10.3923048454 square units.

Limits and interpretation

This formula does not apply to irregular hexagons. A side in centimetres gives an area in cm²; doubling the side multiplies the area by four.
